This is something that I had tried to talk to Vert about right before his disappearance. I understand the point of the league is to make it difficult to keep top talent, but I've noticed that it's rather comical as to why you'd extend anyone long-term (sometimes even arbitration) that isn't elite since you can likely get them much cheaper in FA.
2B Carl Martin: He would've taken about $6M in arbitration, but I let him go to FA to see if I could get him for something like $2-3M for 2 years. As it turned out, Medford got him at $3M for 3 years.
C Denis Clark: He would've taken about $6.5M in arbitration. Again, I let him go and got him back at $4.5M for 2 Years.
SP Tony Bogdan: Started asking $19M for 5 years. He signed at $6M for 4 years.
The disparity in what players ask for and what they get in FA points to the demands WAY overshooting on what players can get. If the gap was closed a little bit, I know I would have at least offered arbitration to Martin and Clark and not risked them going to FA.

i like having more players in F.A., it was frustrating at times to re-sign players, but that's a LOT better than teams being able to re-sign everybody for really cheap salaries...

It's not asking for players to sign cheaply. It's asking for there to be some compromise in the contradiction of the league's premise - Ask for $15M, then go to FA and get $5M. That just doesn't make sense. Dropping the demands down from 30% to 20% would suffice. You'll still have the top players getting paid well.

My vote is to leave the salaries demands where they are, several of us have done negotiations with players to that level already.

I also personally prefer all players go to free agency... makes it far more interesting of a game.

If anything I think Nokes idea of raising the minimum on f/a deals will help this a little. I DO like more guys going to f/a even if its not always quite similar to "real life". It IS a game after all. I do get the frustration tho in resigning's. The problem is the GIANT contracts make the other players demand more to resign. There really is no way to fix it however except by restricting how people bid and that is NOT something that will be done.
I am not the all-powerful leader here, but something like that drastically alters the league and can't happen. I wish there was an easy way to do type A/B Compensation (with 2nd and 3rd round picks) but its too complicated and I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin lol.
basically in a long winded post I am saying I think we should leave it alone. It can be frustrating but look at the real world now... Dexter fowler got less than he was offered on the f/a market. Weiters probably would have. I don't think in-game its a big enough problem to change anything.
